on March 23rd 1859, the Legislative Council of India passed CPC 1858. The law aimed to make the Civil Procedure everywhere. The Governor General Approved it. The Presidency Small Cause Court and Supreme Court in the Presidency Town where not subject to this code.

The Act was first enacted in the year 1859 as Act 8 of 1859.

The Code was ammended thereafter several times in 1860, 1861, 1878, 1879 and 1882.

The CPC of 1877 was unable to satisfy the difficulties and significant changes were made.

After many amendments CPC was finally reenacted in 1908 and came into effect on January 1909.

After Independence of India, Constitution of India According to Article 372. Continuance in force of existing laws and their adaptation.
